The Frost Came!

Around October 10th the frost came. So I harvested all the veggies. All the peppers were still green. However I stayed patient and hoped they would ripen in the house and not rot.

Success. He is a beautiful Yellow/Orange Bell Pepper.
The Big Red Bell Pepper did change red, but we ate it before  I took a  photo.
Another note: We have hardly had sunny days this fall. The lettuce is failing pretty hard.

Popcorn Harvest

These 3 guys are popcorn ears. They are naturally smaller than normal
sweet corn ears. Now I have to hang them in a mesh bag and let them dry for 2 months.

Waiting for the Red Pepper

See the hose? I really hardly had to water the garden this year.

This guy us suppose to be a Red Bell Pepper. It is huge and beautiful
but it is not red. I'll Leave it on the plant and keep waiting.

Yellow or Orange Bell Peppers. We'll be patient and wait.
Rory planted more Lettuce in the beginning of the month.
Mid October we should have more lettuce.

Pop! Corn. At this point I'm waiting for the plant to
start dring up so I can harvest the cobs.

We made sauce from my tomatoes!!

We roughly had just over 3 pounds of usable tomatoes.
(not all shown here)
We scored and cut stems out before blanching.

We blanched the tomatoes and the skins practically fell off.

Used a food mill.

Results of the food mill before seasoning.

Important part of cooking.

Cooked for hours.
It looks like sauce.
It was great! Can't wait to try again.

The Potato Bag Harvest

As of Aug 19th... Nice.

Romas getting ready for Tomato Sauce.

Beatrice Eggplant. This is as big as they get.
I was hoping a tad bigger.

Popcorn... It is still doing its thing.

The Ground Cherries are ready when they hit the ground.
Green Bell Pepper. 1st one.

Hybrid 100 Cherry Tomatoes from last year

I'm getting ready to harvest the potatoes.
Actually this is just a pic to show off my new hat from Italy.
:)

Here we go. We are excited! Plus see my hat, it keeps the
sun off my nose and neck.

Alright I'm dumping the bag. Lets see what we have.
I'm hoping for something in the range of 14 pounds.

WHAT!

"Don't feel bad dad, look at my cute sassiness."

2 pounds. oh sigh maybe next year.

End of July Progress

I took these photos before a storm that was going to produce hail.
The storm only lasted 15 minutes with no hail. The Garden was safe.

Gone!

Just wanted to report that Rory's 3 Sunflowers, she was growing from seed that were in the Garden bed, are GONE! I don't know how but some animal came and snatched them away I guess.

Anticipation: Tomatos and Heat

My most anticipating tomato plant. Aunt Molly's ground cherry.
I only have one (from seed that has survived) in my garden.

My team and I weeded and spread some hay to keep the
moisture in the ground.

Not only is this thing blooming for the first time in years, I now have
2 different colors on the same plant. Neat.

All Planted

Here we have all our major plants planted, More eggplant and peppers.
Max is hooking up the soaker hose for it's dose of saturation. I think this day the
heat hit in the 90s.

I know it is not a fruit or vegetable, but we haven't had any
flowers' bloom in 9+ years. I trimmed them differently last fall.

Rainy end of spring but I still have a small harvest.

As you see the lettuce is getting destroyed by bugs. We did and still are eating some.
I triple check for bugs!

The potato plants are doing awesome! I think. After this shot I
added my last layer of soil to the bag.

Added some tomato and eggplant plants that I bought last weekend.
Even planted a few  that I started from seed. Unfortunately only about 9
seeds survived out of 2 or 3 dozen.  6 plants went to my brother and aunt.
It is a challenge, I already know what I am doing different next year.

Extra note I found some corn plants started in my compost from  Popcorn.
That is what you see to the left.

Lettuce See what I have so far.

Lots of lettuce is growing. Picked enough on May20th
for 2 nights worth of salad.

Those are carrots on the left.

These tomatoes are doing great.
We did however have some casualties.
None of the seeds I saved even work.
